Activities in North County Sligo
There are a wide range of activities available in this part of Sligo and Glach a Mara is in a perfect position for anyone who enjoys walking, horse riding, boating, fishing, golf, diving or surfing.

There are lots of interesting places of cultural and historical interest on our doorstep and cosy pubs where you can spend an evening listening to traditional music.

LISSADELL HOUSE

Lissadell House is the childhood home of Constance Markievicz . She was one of the leaders of the 1916 Rising in Ireland. She was the first woman to be elected to the House of Commons at Westminister. The house and gardens have undergone extensive renovations and visitors are welcome. The house has a large collection of paintings and literature by George Russell[ae], W.B. Yeats,Jack B Yeats, Eva Gore Booth and many others.

CREEVYKEEL

 Here stands a marvelous ancient court tomb dating back to the stone age. It was a place of worship and ceremony and predated many of the Christian church ceremonies of today.

 

GLENCAR WATERFALL

The small but beautiful Glencar Waterfall is situated between Sligo and Manorhamilton just off the N16. The poet WB YEATS made this little gem famous in his poem The Stolen Child.

MULLAGHMORE

A picture postcard harbour, wild sweep of ocean and expanse of golden sand.
Take a boat trip to the ancient monastic island of Inishmurry or relax and enjoy the seafood reataurants.

SLIGO

Sligo is an attractive town with good bars and restaurants, theatres and art galleries. Its name literally translates as 'the place of shells'.

W.B.Yeats is buried in Drumcliffe graveyard, in the shadow of the famous loaf shaped Benbulben Mountain.
